


TCLEOSE Rules on Crisis Intervention
Section 1701.351(a) of the Texas Occupations Code requires that each peace
officer shall complete at least 40-hours of continuing education programs once
every 24 months. The commission may suspend the license of a peace officer
who fails to comply with this requirement.
TCLEOSE RULE 217.11(b) mirrors the above statute.

Crisis Intervention Training Deadline
Senate Bill 1473 (79th R) amended the Texas Occupations Code 1701.253 and
the Texas Education Code to require training in crisis intervention and
de-escalation techniques to facilitate interaction with persons with mental
handicaps.
Officers must complete this training prior to the second anniversary of the date
the officer was licensed, or prior to applying for an intermediate certificate
whichever date is earlier. Officers must complete the training prior to apply for an
intermediate or advanced certificate. All other officers must complete this training
before 09-01-2009.
TCLEOSE RULE 217.11(e)
A constable and deputy constable must have completed a 20-hour Civil Process
Course in addition to the above requirements. The 20-hour Civil Process Course
can be a part of the 40-hours taken in either of the 24-month units.
TCLEOSE Rule 217.11(h) allows the commission to take action against a
licensee in either or both of the 24-month units within a training cycle.
